I found the following subject on Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;812930
It addresses the issue I am having however once I follow
the designated path in the Regedit I am unsure wether to
delete the entire folder named "compressed files" or do I
just delete the contents of this folder and leave the
folder intact. Would really appreciate some advice, do
not want to mess up my regedit by deleting too much.

Thanks for any help than can be offered.

JB2,

You may delete the 'Compress Old Files' key itself.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files]
