going off on tangents. Thanks.

Tangents are a fact of life in newsgroups. They happen, and if you ask
questions in newsgroups, you need to realize that.

To make matters worse, in this case I have no idea what your question
was, since instead of replying to the original thread, you started a
new one, and also quoted nothing of the original.

I'd like to help if I can. Please find your original thread and reply
to it, so we can understand you.

Weren't the one before that was complaining that they couldn't do
something during the bootup with your keyboard because you were using a
USB-connected keyboard? Well, if the OS isn't loaded then neither are
the USB drivers to support that USB keyboard. If you're the same
person, I believe you were told to check if the BIOS has a setting to
support legacy USB devices (keyboard and mouse) or to switch to using
the PS/2 port for the keyboard (and mouse).

Guys, I really appreciate your input, but you are all barking up the wrong
tree! I KNOW why my XP disk checking program runs on a moderately regular,
and very inconvenient basis. What I DON't know is how to stop it once it
starts running. The screen instructions tell me that I can cancel the disk
check whenever I want, but for some reason I can't figure out how to do that
- and I feel really stupid. Please advise.

So spill the beans and let us into your little secret!

Gerry, I thought that this was a serious newsgroup - not just a way to keep
people hanging on a string: shame on you.

He was being serious. If you KNOW why it's happening then post it.
Someone here may be able to fix the problem. If you persist in
withholding information I doubt you'll get much help here.

IMO I wouldn't cancel a disk check it's running for a reason.

I guess no one actually knows tha answer to my specific question, or at
least, if they do, no one is actually willing to share it. I'm sorry I
bothered anyone. I'll know not to do so again.

He might have if someone had answered the very simple question he asked
which no one was inclined to do. I could answer it but won't, since
he's gone now and I don't want any of you who might now know the answer
to learn the answer from me.
