I got the same exact error when try to use he SYSTEM RECOVEY CD on a Sony
VAIO.
Funny thing is SONY told me I needed a new hardrive. I told SONY that the
hardrive was working fine b4 I tried the recovery CD. My neighbor had a
retail version of Windows XP and as a test, we tried to load it. It loaded
just fine and XP works fine. We even ran scan disk and it reported no errors
with the HD.
I called Sony, and told them this is proof that my harddrivre is OK. Sony
did not care, they said even if I ran hardrive diags supplied by the HD
manufacter and it reported no errors with the HD, that Sony's answer would
still be to replace the HD!!!!!!!! They refuse to acknowlege that there
could be a problem with the design of the Sony SYS RECOVERY CD. They said I
have to send it into Sony at a coast of $300.00 to replace the harddrive.
WHAT A SCAM BY SONY.
