My table of contents page no longer shows any of the posts that were made.
They are still there but I carelessly made a post (to test) on my development
site and then when I republished, it removed all of the previously list on
the table of contents. As I said, the posts are all still there (I can see
them when I open the site in FrontPage), it just no longer "synchs" with the
table of contents. I really need an answer!

It's recommended that Discussion Webs should be in a subweb, so when you
publish your site, you don't overwrite the Discussion on your live site.

Thanks for that information. That will help me the next time. Any answers
about how to get the table of contents to recognize the entries that are
there but no longer showing up?

Since you have published over the DW you have clobbered the indices used by the DW
- no way to get it back unless your host has a backup of the web before your publishing they can restore
