I installed Window XP a week ago and all of the sudden
every time I go on the internet I get disconnected every
mintute or two. There are no error messages and I am
still using a 56K dial up. Please help.

Hi,
Do you perhaps have call waiting on your phone line? The call waiting beeps
might be disconnecting your dial up connection. Another thing to look into
is to try the same dial up connection on another machine and see if it
continues to disconnect.

Is the installed driver the correct one for your modem? XP may not have
picked the right one during the install.
Are your cables securely plugged in? I have seen cases where phone cords
appear to be plugged into the jack in the modem but they are not fully
inserted and locked.

You didn't say how old the XP disk is but it sounds like you are being hit
by Blaster actually. What you should do is go to the Networking Connections
folder, right click on your ISP connection, go to the ADVANCED tab and then
make sure the firewall option has a TICK on it. Now connect to Internet and
that wont happen if Blaster definitely is it. Now, go to the MS update web
site straight away and install the critical updates. If it is Blaster, the
updates patch it and other things.
