I am connected to the internet along with 18 other users. The setup is
modem-router-switch-user. The problem is, that some users (not all xp users)
experience instabilities in the connection. Apparantly some computers cannot
connect during am period of 2-5 days, and then it works just fine again.
Personally, I have no problems connecting to the internet. Do you have any
suggestions to what could be wrong?
We have contacted our internet-provider and had them to replace the router.
The switch is a HP (can't remember the model, but that can be checked if
necessary).

Furthermore, after 5-6 hours my computer (WinXP Home SP2) tells me that
there is no LAN-cable connected. And half a second later everything is fine
again. This repeats itself 3-4 times, and only lasts a minute or so. Not
that it is that irritating, but could it have anything to do with the above
experienced problems?

I hope I'm not repeating an old question, I couldn't find any thread on the
problem.

Thanks for your help.

This sound like HW problem.
What is the distance between users and switch?
What is the category of cable 3/5/6?
Did you try conrcting users trough other net device (maybe hub)?
Is the switch manageable? If it is go and check for errors.
Is it there near to cables and equipment strong magnetic field?
Did you try to verify cables with cable tester?
