Disconnected frm network lost archive file

My computer acct became disconnected frm the network.
I logged on locally joined the workgroup then rejoin the
domain.

When I opened Outlook the archive folder gave an error msg.
unable to locate the archive.pst file. I recalled
renaming this folder. Also this file was large close to
2GB.

Why did this happened. More, importantly how do I
resolve it.

Can you still find the archive.pst file in your computer? Make sure to
search hidden/system files when searching, if using Win2k/XP.

Hidden files are displayed.
I did locate a .pst and .ost but it will not open in
Outlook after trying 3 ways to open. Appears to be an
unrecognizable file.
