disc space is incorrect!!! what can I do???

Lately i've upgraded my Win 98 to XP. i know for SURE that i have a large disc spase - 40 GB!!
now my computer showes that i ONLY have 1.99 GB TOTAL space and only 145 MB free!!! (i checked drive C properties
i had also a message that my computer doesn't have enough space
how can that be? please help me...

What format is it?? Have you run any antivirus programs? Apparently
there is a virus that will destroy your diskspace, until it reaches 0
then you have to reboot. After rebooting how much diskspace do you have?
