disc I/O error during read

could anyone help me with this error message as it is
what I am getting when I try to open my Cash Book

The file may be corrupt or the disk that the file is on could be in
trouble. If this file is on the hard drive, try running chkdsk. Be aware
that if the file is corrupt that it may get picked up by chkdsk and
converted to a *.chk file. It will no longer be usable.

If the file is on a CD, it may have to be copied to the hard drive before
it will work. If has been copied from CD to the hard drive, try right
clicking on it and removing the check mark from the Read Only box.

There's also a chance that this is a known error with the program that
created the cash book file. May want to check with the program's tech
support before doing anything else.
