Hi, when ever i enter a disc, it does not show up. Neither DVDs or Cds show
up The drive was working properly the other day, and doesnt any more

When i put a disc in, i can hear the sound of it spinning, and then it makes
another sounds, and sort of clicking, then more spinning, the some more
lcicking, then it just goes silent

The drive is a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW 16335

Any ideas ?

Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider On the
Edit menu, click Permissions . Click the registry key for the user that is
currently logged on and ensure that Read and Full Control are both set to
Allow . Click the Advanced button, ensure that the user that is currently
logged on is selected, that Full Control is listed in the Permissions column,
and that This Key and Subkeys is listed in the Apply to column. Click to
select the Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown
here that apply to child objects check box. Click Apply , and then click Yes
when you receive a prompt to continue. Click OK , and then click OK again

tried that...and permissions is already set to Full Control and Read

Ive also tried updating the firmware but still no luck

Ive noticed that once i put the disc on...the laser light flashes for a
little while, then it stops

Maybe the drive needs cleaning, or it's damaged/faulty.

At this point, probably the only easy step left is to put the drive in
another machine to test it.
