"Disc Cleanup" stops

When trying to run disc cleanup the program stops. I
tried going into my temp file and deleting everything from
there but that stalls as well leaving one folder in there,
the "temporary internet files" folder. When I went back
to try disc cleanup again, the same result - it just
doesn't seem to be responding.

Try running it in safe-mode. Also, my machine takes a long time to complete
this task as well. Try letting it sit for awhile.
 
I let it go over night and still nothing. I let it go
while I spent a full day at work and still nothing. It's
actually still up and scanning, and doesn't sound like
it's doing anything. I'll try safe mode but I am very
skeptical.
