Disaster Recovery using NTBackup

I am using NTBackup to create individual server (Advanced
Server 2000) backup files in a network folder. I then use
NTBackup to create a tape containing that network folder
which contains all of the backup files.

To test a disaster recovery situation I am using a "Hot"
server containing a fresh version of Advanced Server 2000.
In that server is a tape drive from which I wish to
restore one of the backup files from the tape.

I cannot get the NTBackup (restore) to run directly from
the tape. I can restore the tape to a network location and
then restore the server.

I am using an unmanaged tape library in all cases.

I think the problem is in the process to create a catalog
from the tape.

Any ideas?????

So you are using NTBackup to copy NTBackup catalogs to tape?? Not a good
idea..

Make your file backups if you want to, but the backup to tape should be
files straight from your hard drive plus Systemstate.

As a test, try doing a backup of C:\ and Systemstate to tape and see if you
can recover that to your new box.

Clarification.... Using NTBackup to create a tape
containing multiple backup files created by NTbackup on
multiple servers.

Clarification.... Each server is running NTBackup
resulting on a backupfile in a shared network folder.
As a test, try doing a backup of C:\ and Systemstate to tape and see if you
can recover that to your new box.
Clarification....I can do that... and I can recover any
server from the backup file on the network. I just cannot
recover a server from the tape that contains multilple
backup files. I can get it to catalog the first backup
file on the tape but I cannot get it to skip past the
first file and catalog any succeding backup file.

I
Thanks...
