Hi All

After a disaster recovery of a domain controller the Active directory
service fails to start up. I have identified the problem to that of
KB295932 - "Windows 2000 Domain Controllers Restored with System State
Backups Made Prior to SP2 May Not Boot" but the article
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295932 just tell me how to prevent it (by
installing SP2 or higher) Ive tried to install SP3 (just what i could get my
hand on at the moment) but still, the problem remains.

Any great ideers or someting ?

Alternatly, the KB article descripes a hotfix, but i have to contact
MS-support to get it, and I don't wanna risk having to pay for a bug-fix. If
anyone have the mentiont fix, it would be much apriciatet if you were to
send it to rp*at*aub.dk.

You won't have to pay if you mention the KB number and have the symptoms
described therein.. Call MS.

The fix mentioned in 295932 is preventative only. It will not fix backups
made with sp2 binaries.

Also, If you backup is older than 60 days do not restore it. See.

If the above matches you senario and you have other DC"s in the domain you
may want to force demote the DC and run metadata cleanup. Then reinstall and
repromote.
