Disappearing Transitions and Effects with some added research and

I've been at this problem for a while and the forums move me into some pretty
uncomfortable places. The basic problem started with MM transitions and
effects being wiped out. I have MM 2.1 and tried to reinstall SP2 to get
around the problem but unfortunately that did not do the trick.

So research from PapaJohn's checklist which turned me to Rehan's forum for
such fixes, I tunred to the registry (HKEY_etc) and watched the transitions
and effects listings grow
for(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveMovie\devenum\{CC7BFB43-F175-11D1-A392-00E0291F3959}
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveMovie\devenum\{CC7BFB42-F175-11D1-A392-00E0291F3959}
) after running the downloaded "missing transitions and effects" from Rehan.
Launching MM2.1 wiped them away and that is where I am stuck. Both of these
registries show "value not set" for ID and I am left wondering.

I checked permissions in each of these registries and I have administrative
access. Any advice would be useful. I'm not sure what other detail would be
useful to get help. I am running Norton Internet Security and Antivirus and
don't think adware or spyware is a problem.

You *tried* to reinstall SP2 or you *did* reinstall SP2?

You can download SP2 from the following link:

Download Windows XP SP2
http://tinyurl.com/6ubys

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

John: After having read your post re saving SP 2 to a CD for future need, I
have a question. I installed SP 2 from the CD disc that I ordered from
Microsoft when it originally came out. My question is: if and when it
becomes necessary to reinstall SP 2 in case of a Moviemaker problem, or for
any other reason, would I reinstall right over the present SP 2? Or, is
uninstalling SP 2 even an option? Thanks a lot.

I'm no expert on installing / uninstalling SP2...
