I have noticed that several of my posts
have "disappeared". These are not posts submitted when
the newgroup database is cranky and are, thus, lost
immediately. Rather, these are posts that appeared in the
post listing, were there for a day or two, and then
disappeared, never to be seen again.

Anyone have any idea what is happening here?

Thanks

John: The problem is a little more complex than just lost
posts.

I have done some testing and found that only 80% of my
posts actually get posted initially. I assumed that this
was due to the MS NewGroup being "down" when I posted. I
did go back and looked to see if anyone else was able to
post around the time I did and normally there are no
posts. Systems go down, but I do wish that MS would tell
you that rather than let you assume that everything was OK.

At least 3 times, I have lost posts initially "there" and
was unable to find them using (1) the search tool and (2)
very carefully going through each page back for at least a
week before the post.

In frustration with the interface and these problems, I
migrated to the ExcelTip.com forum as my interface into
the MS Excel Programming newsgroup. This has worked quite
well, but I have recently noticed that the flow of info
from MS Newsgroup to ExcelTip Forum is not consistent
(flow from ExcelTip to MS seems to still be OK).

If I can not find the post doing a search from the MS
NewGroup, why would I be able to find it using a Google
search?

Thanks

I'm certainly not an expert in the CDO interface. I dislike it intesely,
and won't use it if any alternatives exist (so far, they have). But
while I'm not defending it, I also believe there would be a much greater
uproar if that was the common experience.

Some messages are filtered by spam filters and for objectionable content
(i.e, porn, foul language), but I see nothing in your posts to indicate
that that's what's going on.

Searching the MS groups and using Google may give different results
since in searching MS, you're searching a live server which may or may
not have retained your post, while in searching Google, you're searching
a static archive that sucks up everything that hits it (with a lag time
of 2-8 hours).

And, AFAIK, the MS server farm hasn't had a major outage since last
November or so.
