heres a weird one
i backed up some 6 gig of data from a 20 gig drive loaded with win 95
to a master drive on IDE 2 [80gig] which is split into 4 partitions
.....
i then formatted the 20gig drive and loaded win98se...
when i went back to get the data i could not access 2 of the 4
partitions on the master IDE 2 drive.....
[FREAKOUT :( VERY BAD]
right clicking on properties showed the drive not formatted
however when booting into safe mode i can see all partitions and am
moving the data back as i write this

anybody have a tip or explanation for this very scary occurence???

Something to do with Win95 using FAT16, and Win98 using FAT32? I'm not
sure either.

I don't know for sure...
but in safe mode, windows just loads minimal drivers
so may have something to do with the specific ide drivers

Could you have been using some kind of "partition manager"?

no partition managers...file system showing on the inaccessible
partitions was FAT not FAT 32...the drive was partitioned with FDISK
[the updated version]....the puzzle is why is partition accessible
only in safe mode?

ok, i could be totally backwards here. but heres a guess.

the original windows 95 didn't come with fat32, only fat16.

na, doesn't make since does it?
thats a good one

Correct. 95a was FAT16 only. 95b and 95c were capable of using FAT32.
