disappearing mouse

I have a laptop with an additional mouse attached. When I work in MS Word
2003 and I hover my mouse cursor over the page my mouse disappears. However
when I move my mouse up to the toolbar area it reappears. I can right click
and get additional commands, but I can't see the mouse.

It works fine in every other application but word. Does any one have any
idea why??
 
It is a mouse problem, not a Word problem. I suggest that you go into the
mouse settings (Control Panel applet) and change the pointer. That may
resolve the problem. If not, is this the same for both the mouse or the
touchpad? Have you checked for driver updates for the touchpad and/or the
mouse?

Erm, go into mouse settings in control panel and see if you have make mouse
cursor disappear when typing selected. Mine does that whenever I type in
any program, but comes back after I move the mouse.
