disappearing cursor

Since installing XP SP2 I've found that (both in email
and Word) my cursor will disappear and my document
becomes inactive (doesn't go away but moves to the bottom
task bar). I have to use my mouse to replace the
cursor. This happens every few seconds and is driving me
insane. Anyone know how to fix this?

Perhaps this setting needs to be changed: Control Panel> Mouse> Pointer
Options> uncheck box next "Hide Pointer while typing"
