disappearing calendar events

I have Outlook 2000 and recently opened one of my contacts to see a birthday. Much to my surprise, when I double clicked the icon in the lower pane I got a message.....The item can no longer be found. It may have been moved or deleted. When I go to my calendar to see the events there is nothing there. How can I retrieve this info. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you click the Details tab on the Contact form, is the birthday still
listed in the Birthday field? If so, then only the association between the
data in that field and the calendar item that was originally created has
been lost. If you only have one of these to worry about, you can probably
delete the old shortcut from the General tab, delete the info in the
Birthday field (don't forget what it is, though :-) ), save the contact,
then reenter the birthday info and save the contact again -- that should
create a new shortcut on the General tab and also put the Calendar item
back.

If, on the other hand, you find that a lot of your contacts have the same
issue (which may have occurred if these items were imported from another
file at some point), there is a 3rd party add-in that can help you fix these
associations on a wider scale with less effort on your part. See
http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/rspacc.htm for details.

Thanks for your help. I ordered the event association program. We'll see how it works. As you suspected...I lost about 1400 contact dates. I'll let you know how it turns out. Jim King

I note that it seems to be a random problem, i.e. the
importing of the .pst file does not always render the
calendar items inoperable - it is a Microsoft problem yet
they are not offering a fix for this situation - would
that be a fair assessment?

Why should we have to pay for additional software to fix
a 'glitch' in the software which we are already paying for?
