disappearance of address bar

My address bar has disappeared. When I view the toolbars
and click on "address bar", although it is checked, the
address bar does not come on.

Try downloading and running the exe under #3 at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and see if that fixes your
problem.
