disabling touch pad while using mouse and vice versa

I was able to disable the touchpad while using the mouse and vice versa on my previous laptop using ME. I can't find the way of doing the same thing on my new laptop using XP Home Edition.

I have the Professional version of XP, but my touch pad has an icon in the
bottom r-hand corner of screen. If I 2-click it, I can disable it and the
blue pointy stick and both sets of buttons.
