Disabling the Auto run feature

Anyone here know how to disable the auto-run feature when
you insert a CD, game or otherwise? I know there is a
feature for this, I believe it's holding down a key after
you insert the CD however I honestly can't remember which.

I hold down the left shift key before inserting the CD and
keep it held down until the CD drive light stays off.
I've never tried the right shift key.
