Hi all

XP HE

I can't find anything relevant on Google, so I wonder if some kind guru
will please advise.

How can I disable a program from starting when I plug in a USB2 device? I
use Pinnacle Studio for video editing. I have a DV camera, connected via
firewire to a Pinnacle MovieBox which is plugged into a USB2 port. When I
use my webcam, I unplug the MovieBox and plug in the webcam. When I plug my
MovieBox back in, Studio always starts up. I don't want it to.

You can download and install TweakUi Powertoy from Microsoft. There
are AutoPlay settings under the computer item that allow you to tune
what autoplays for different content.

Thanks Mike, I'd forgotten about that. Having checked, there isn't any
reference to Studio in there, assuming you mean My
Computer|AutoPlay|Handlers. There's several for Real Player, Nero, WMP, WE,
etc, but nothing for Studio at all.

Here is a good article on how it works. It should be the autoplay
handlers that are detecting a type of media and selecting the
appropriate program. Have you right clicked the drive and looked at
the AutoPlay tab?

Hi Mike

Thanks for the link, it was most instructive. I don't have an Autoplay tab
but I did find, in the Registry under Pinnacle, USBTip, which I *think*
could be the service that picks up the event . I've changed it to False and
I now get the Option dialog instead of Studio starting, so I guess that was
probably 'it'. Time will tell. :)

Many thanks for your help. I very much appreciate it.

Cheers
