Hey Gang!

Can anyone tell me how to disable the discovery of USB thumb drives (and all
other hardware, for that matter) on a user by user basis?

You can't natively with the operating system. If the user is not a member of
the administrators group then plug and play for devices that do not used
signed drivers will fail but devices that use server side installation will
work for any user. You might want to take a look at the capabilities of the
free Shared Computer Toolkit [or Group Policy in an AD domain] that can help
manage some access to drives based on user account and otherwise lockdown
users. There may also be third party applications that can help such as
DeviceLock. --- Steve
