How do I do this?

In another thread floppy said i'd have to do it in the BIOS :s

When the pc starts up keeping pressing F8 and this will enable you to get into the BIOS.
Once in the BIOS scroll along until you find the On-Board Graphics section & disable it.:thumb:

your gonna have to be a bit more detailed. i kept pressing f8 and it comes up a boot menu wen i choose hard drive the pc starts up.

typing this using the on screen keyboard as since pressing f8 my mouse and keyboardarent working

Try pressing the delete key on startup instead and see if that works? That should take you into the BIOS and let you disable onboard graphics.

Any idea why my mouse isnt working unless i use a usb port?

I just went into device manager , and disables Sis 6510 graphic adapter . turned the PC off , put the new graphics card in , but my PC wouldnt but up. At first it kept making funny bleeping noises , but that stopped once i positioned hte card correctly. Now when I turn it on it just doesnt do anyhting. It loads a bit but the screen is blank , then nothing.

I had to take the card out again to get on this.

Are any experts avaliable on MSN? I'd find that a bit easier to get help.

Thanks for the help so far lads

Also there doesnt seem to be a port on the graphics card that my monitor will fit into :S

Processor is a Intel (R) Celeron CPU 2.66 GHz

Not sure how I find out about he motherboard :S

The PC is a packard bell, purchased from PC World (Rip Off lol)
As far as I'm concerned, everybody is peeing into the wind unless you can tell us more details of your PC.

What is the model number & or name of this crapard hell PC. :thumb:

I have to say, you have a crap system & would be better off saving your pennies & buy a better PC ... I deduce that from two words. ;)

I do not care for having the greatest system and stuff. I just want to play GTA on my comp at a decent frame rate.

I've attached an Everest system summary below

You need to make sure that your videocard is compatible with the motherboard.

(HCL: hardware Compatibility List)
To find out, check the manufacture and the type of the motherboard on the mobo itself, then go to their website and seach for specification for your mobo.

Do you see a POST(black screen with different specification)
If it is just at the moment windows boot up that you got a blank screen?, it's probably because you need to boot on VGA mode to adjust the resolution of your display(resolution).

It sounds as if you hadn't pushed the video card into the AGP slot enough but now you have.

If the cable from your monitor doesn't fit into the video card I'm going to guess that the card has one or two DVI sockets and the cable from the monitor is a VGA fitting.

So you need a DVI to to VGA adapter. Usually you get one or two supplied with the video card.

But I can't say for sure because I can't actually see anything, obviously.

If you could give us more info about the connectors, even a written description here, it may help.

If you think you can get more help on MSN, go right ahead.

Just let us know though so we don't waste our time with you.

The graphics card only has a DVI slot and the Monitor only has a VGA connector , so aye , i will need an adapter.

The card only came as the card. No box , no adapters , no wires.

Also been told ill need to connect the card to my PSU , so i'll be looking for a wire to connect them too.

After that , no doubt there will be more problems.

thanks for your help so far

Which card do you actually have?

Yes, you need a DVI to VGA adaptor, Maplins should stock them, or E-Buyer should also stock them.

For the card's PSU requirements, you need a 4 pin molex 'Y' splitter lead.

AIW radeon 9800 SE , the bottom one on the link above

Any hcnace of a link or pic of a 4 pin molex 'Y' splitter lead?

Cause the ones iv looked at so far all look way too big to fit in the graphics card

Sorry for jumpin in here again ... I do hope I'm wrong here ... I don't see how that video card fits into your AGP slot.

Can you tell me if the AGP slot has ... one, or two "key" ridges ... take a look at my attachment and tell me if that is not your MB and I'll be happy. :)

It all looked to be in the same places until i realised i dont have a CNR slot whatever that is.

Theres just an AGP slot and 3 PCI slots underneath it.

The card fits in.

I'll try and get a shot of my mates digital camera and get a pic of the motherboard uploaded.

Great if you can ... :thumb:

Take a look at your own link to the graphics card you chose ... look at the first one in your link, the x800, look closely at the notch-out (key) there is only really one ... look at my MB pic, you see it fits the AGP slot, only one ridge (key)

This is why I keep interfering ... to me, it looks like you have the wrong card ... but, I am not 100% sure I have the right MB manual. You may have a later edition MB that did away with the CNR slot, and possibly also used the newer AGP slot ... there are 3 type AGP slots to contend with.

:user:

The graphics card I have is the one at the bottom , with 3 bits then a key. It fits perfectly in the agp slot which only has a wee , dunno exactly what to cal it. err its a little device you have to pull to fit the graphics card in. the key goes there and that that.

I have connected the card upto the PSU no problem. Connected the monitor to the card through an adapter no problem.

The card is definatley in right , I cant see anything orange on ther bottom of it.

Yet whenever I turn the Pc on with the card installed , it won't come on , it just loads for a while , no BEEP! like usually when the PC is booting up.

Does this have something to do with the onboard graphics maybe? As i couldnt find it to disable it in BIOS

Nope, you can have more than one graphics cards, though I haven't tried three cards, I have had Dual cards & monitors in one PC.

Sorry to say it again, I really do not think that card is "compatible" with your PC. Fitting the wrong AGP could cause damage to your MB. Sorry. :(

If I could find your exact motherboard, I would be able to tell you what is compatible. :thumb:

Actually looking at my MB , what I thought was something in a PCI slot now looks different , think its a CNR slot situated where it is on the diagram you showed.

I'll definatley try and get some pics of the MB up soon.
