disabling My Recent Documents

J

Jim

Can anyone tell me how I can turn off "My Recent
Documents" so that whenever I access a file or picture it
won't create the My Recent Documents folder and keep a
history of every file I've opened?

Thanks for your help! Jim

Jim,

If you want to disable the RecentDocs feature entirely, see:
Disable Recent Documents History:
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/545/

Doug Knox has written a script for the same:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/docshist.htm

The above tips disables the RecentDocs history entirely. If you just wish to disable a particular filetype [not to be added to recentdocs history], reply back with the file type [extension]

To manually disable My Recent Documents, right-click Start button,
choose Properties, Ensure you are on the Start Menu tab, click
Customize button. In the Customize Start Menu dialog, click the
Advanced tab. In the Recent Documents section, remove the check from
List My Most Recently Used Documents. Click OK, Apply, and you're
done.
