Disabling mail plugins so XP mail works!

Hi
I've Xp & also have AVG free version!
I updated & i couldn't send or recieve mails via outlook express.
I realised it was the AVG mail scanner being active & stopping my POP &
SMTP.
I can't permmanently disable plugins in AVG as it always reapears after i
shut down or restart!
Can i permanently shut off plugins!

I have done this, but each time i restart the pc, i need to do it again!
Can i go to the AVG, allow & disallow pop & smtp & erase them! or will this
mess up my Outlook Express settings!
