How can I disable or change the screen saver that is activated after a
period of inactivity when at the XP log-on screen?

This is the setting for the normal screen saver. That's not what I'm
looking for.

You can do it one of two ways ... a long way using TweakUI or modifying the
HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop values.

TweakUI:
1. Set the normal screensaver to nothing
2. Open TweakUI | Logon | Settings
3. Check whatever you want set from current User to Default User logon
Welcom screen
4. Click on Copy Now

Regedit:
1. Open HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop key
2. Change SCRNSAVE.EXE value to (None)
3. Change ScreenSaveActive to 0
4. Close regedit

It's amazing what one can find when entering the right search
term in Google.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=change+xp+logon+screensaver

Even more amazing is what showed up as the first entry in the
search results.

How to change the Windows Logon screen saver in Windows XP

Good luck
