Hi,
I'm pretty much finished setting up my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) , and
have done all the tweaking of XP ( recommended by Audio Professionals ) that
I know of that will bring out the best computer performance for Audio
Recording. My computer will not have an Internet Connection, will not be on
a Network, share files or anything of that kind. It is dedicated to be a
standalone Music Recorder with XP as it's Operating System.
Audio work is very demanding for the PC and I'm looking to disable services
that I would not need that would give me more resources. When I have Task
Manager opened up , it says I have 19 processes working and they all take up
resources. I know I can set priorities for each process, but I'm looking to
disable or shutdown anything I can.
There are things that I know I need , so I won't mention them, but here are
some in question. What do they do ?

IMAGE NAME USERNAME

svchost .exe Network Service
scvhost .exe System
svchost .exe System
services.exe System
csrss System
explorer
svchost Local Service

Thanks

Rick

I did some digging. I ran CMD - Tasklist / svc , and it listed all the
processes for each Image Name in Task Manager. Some of them, I don't
understand, but they seem important as they are System files. I think I'll
leave well enough alone. It's too close to Xmas to have my Puter go AWOL.
What about under Network Connections / Properties ?
- Client for M/S Networks
- File and Print Sharing for M/S Networks
- QoS Packet Scheduler
- Internet Protocol TCP / IP

While these are all network related services, they normally do not run
unless needed. Also some (TCP/IP) cannot be uninstalled.

You sound pretty excited about this new system that you're setting up. At
this point, I would recommend backing out of all those config screens for
Windows for now. Instead, start working with those audio apps that you'll
be running and enjoy!

I hear ya...
Sometimes, I just can't leave well enough alone.Aarrrgh..
Thanks so much for the response...
No more digging for me, all is well now and hopefully I can keep my little
paws off the tweaking ...
I'll let you (and the rest of the MVP's) know when my Web Site is up and
running, so you can listen to some Music.
Thanks again, and Happy Holidays to all !
I hope you guys get a break over Christmas (?)

Cheers

Happy holidays to you too, Rick, and I look forward to getting a peek at
your site.

Take care,
