On my husbands sign on he appears to have managed to disable the numerics on
the right hand side of the keyboard. When he tries to use these keys the PC
doesn't seem to ack that they have been pressed.

This problem is peculiar only to my husbands sign on, I can use the numeric
keys with no problems.

Press the NumLock key to enable the number pad. If the number pad is still
enabled when he logs off, that state should be remembered for his next log
on.

The number lock button shows enabled, but the number keys don't work.

They won't work at the log on screen but should work after he logs on.

Actually what is unusual is that it works for you. The default in XP is for
those keys to be inaccessible at the logon screen.

See the following page for a registry change that your husband can make
while logged on to his own account. Scroll down the page to the NumLock
section: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_n.htm

I logged on as my husband and followed the instructions as per numlock. The
set up in HKEY CURRENT USER and KKEY USERS are correct i.e. '2'.

The problem is still there - must be something to do with his sign on cos no
other sign on has this problem.

Did you try the other suggestion at Kelly's site?

Normally NumLock is not available at the Welcome screen. For those keys to
be enabled on your account and the others, something was changed. Is there
a customizing or tweaking program install in the other accounts that is not
installed in your husband's?

I have tried both solutions neither works. All the note pad solution does
is switch the numbers lock light on, but the keys still don't ack that they
are being pressed.

We are not teckie and have not (as far as we are aware) installed anything
that would change the settings. This problem occurred on my husbands sign
on a few weeks after we got the PC. He likes to sit and click on things and
see what happens, my view is that he has altered a standard setting was not
aware that anything had changed and therefore accepted the change as
permanent to create this problem.

Then I get the problem of trying to correct it.
