In W2K the built in administrator account for the domain can not be disabled so that
is the account you need to logon as. If the server you are referring to is not a
domain controller, it too has a built in local administrator account that can not be
disabled. The link below shows ways to reset the built in administrator account in
the local sam. If you are not able to logon to the domain as an administrator because
you do not know the built administrator account for the domain or any other domain
administrator account in the domain you may have to do an authoritative restore of
Active Directory from a backup of the System State [no more than 60 days old] from a
domain controller by booting into Directory Services Restore Mode which is similar to
booting into safe mode and is only available on a domain controller. If you do not
know the password of the local administrator account for the domain controller that
is used for Directory Services Restore Mode [also used for Recovery Console] you will
have to reset that password first and hope that syskey floppy/external password are
not required. Keep in mind that methods in the link below require full unfettered
access to the domain controller. --- Steve

On a Server 2000 server I stupidly disabled the account of the old administrator
account before testing my new account. Now I cannot get into active directory to
re-enable his old account or fix my new one. In fact, I can't even log on to the
server at all. Please help this ignorant yahoo (me).
