When i boot up i get a message that the bios is
disabled,The computer does everything ok.I just recently
installed a new hd drive and windows xp home.I had no
problems till i downloaded the SP1 as was recommended.how
does the system boot up without the bios being abled?

I see this error message all the time with SCSI and ATA add in cards.
Some of the cards have their own Bios and the cards display this error when
it is disabled.
The cards still work, it just means you can't boot from them.
To the original poster: You said you added a new hard drive, did it
come with a controller card by any chance?

Thanks for the information. I haven't used SCSI or ATA add-in cards on my
own so I had no frame of reference. I could only see that he was booting
and he said everything seemed to be working.

I was trying to think of a setting in the BIOS that might be responsible but
your information certainly makes sense and assuming the card isn't
controlling his boot drive he would get such an error but still be able to
boot.

Thanks.
