As part of a task to remove lingering objects from my Global Catalogs, the option to disable outbound replication from all gc's except one, which will be the one to be demoted and rebuilt to try and get a clean GC.
My question is, what exactly will performing this command do to my gc's? Is there danger in keeping them in this state for too long? days, weeks, months?
I can find lots of articles explaining how to do this, which I know, but not on what it actually does.
Thanks.

Disabling outbound replication doesn't deal with GC's but with DC's. A GC
is a logical subset of a DC. Any changes made to an object, password, group
membership change, new user, etc... Will not be forwarded on to other DC's
hence this will slowly create an AD without a sync'd up DB.

Be careful how long and you would want to sync them up before you demote.
