Hello,

I have an older laptop with XP-PRO SP2 loaded. It only has 1.1 USB port
support.

Is there a way to disable the "This USB device can perform faster if you
connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port" message?

This unit is shared by many people who will get confused by the message.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Get a cardbus USB 2.0 adapter for this laptop and make both your users
and XP happier :)

Server Guy:
I would agree that all things considered, a CardBus USB 2.0 adapter would be
the route to go. They're certainly cheap enough these days. There's a world
of difference between the performance (data transfer rates) of USB 1.0-1.1 &
2.0 devices.

But, if this is not practical for one reason or another...

To turn off the error message you refer to, follow these steps
1. Open Device Manager
2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section; locate and then
double-click a host controller that has either the word "Universal" or
"Open" in the title.
3. In the properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab and then select the
"Don't tell me about USB errors" check box.
Note: If you turn off this option, all other USB error messages will be also
turned off.

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the great tip! That solved the issue!

I agree that a faster port would have solved the issue, all this unit is
needed for is to save a file or two a day to a USB memory stick. We're on a
very tight budget so this is what we needed!

Thanks again!
