Vista beta 2, build 5456. Using a linksys WMP54G wirelss pci adapter (xp
drivers) with a linksys WRT54G wireless router, must turn off WEP to access
the internet or other computers on the network. Is there a work around for
this issue? Could some recommend a pci or usb adapter that works with the
beta and have security enabled?

Hi,
At this point;from what I've seen-no;(with Linksys at least)
I am also running a WRT54 and unless you disable security;you'll get drops.
My solution-because I'm on a limited network;was to use MAC filtering;to
stop the drops. There seems to be issues with the wlan stack and
encryption;which I haven't seen addressed;yet!! Hopefully; by rc1;or if
anyone else knows how;this will be addressed!!!
In the same boat!!!

Use the old-fashioned method: Threaten your neighbors with bodily harm if
the mess with your LAN ;-)

If the stuff you're protecting is really valuable, you should be using WPA
or WPA2. WEP is an easy crack these days.

Hi,
Alan,
Along with WEP; WPA and WPA2 are also nonfunctional. This is a wlan
stack-encyption issue that has yet to be addressed.

Hmm, good point. Maybe you need to combine bodily harm threats with 256-bit
Rijndael encryption or something on the really really valuable stuff ;-)
