disable "save file" dialog

ms office FrontPage 2003 sp2
win xp pro sp2

When navigating away from an Excel spreadsheet linked to an html page,
Explorer prompts whether the user wants to save changes to the spreadsheet.
How can I prevent that dialog from appearing? In other words, I would like
Explorer to simply return to the prior page, without offering any save
options.

Thanks,

Clem.

Is this happening to other user users or just you on the PC you've used to
edit the web site?

Kathleen,

Thanks for answering.

I have FrontPage loaded on both my desktop and laptop, and it happens on
both machines, so I cannot answer your question right now. If you wish, see
for yourself. The page with the link is
http://ohiorepromed.com/comp_preg_calc.htm. The link itself is the grey
hover button, near the bottom of the page.

Thanks,

Clem.

I'm not an Excel guru, but I think it may have something to do with the fact
that the current date is being loaded into some of the cells. I believe
Excel considers that a change.

Kathleen:

I think that you are correct. But even if the cells were static, the users
would, most likely, still input data, and when navigating away from the
sheet, the dialog would pop up again. I am just wondering whether there is
any way of stopping that from happening... perhaps some java scripting...any
ideas?

Clem.

I don't think so - I think it's an Excel thing. The same thing would happen
if they opened the spreadsheet on their desktop.

Wait, maybe you could set the document to be "read-only"? Try that and see
if it works.

Unless they have Excel installed on their machines, they can't input data.
