Disable network connection is safe?

I have a W2K workstation, and I change Administrator's
password to something only I know.

I log on to the machine with my regular login-id and then
I Disable the networkconnection. I just rightclick it and
disable it.

Then I shutdown this machine and leave my office.
Wouldn't this be quite secure, making it hard for another
person to log on?

Your biggest threat would be someone gaining physical access to your computer
..Someone who can boot from a floppy, cdrom, or gain physical access to your hard
drive or backup media could possibly still retrieve data off of your computer. If
that is very unlikely then I would say you are fairly secure. If you have information
on the computer that absolutely needs to remain confidential at all costs, then you
need to look into using file encryption. W2K has built in file encryption, however it
should not be used until you thoroughly understand the risks involved including you
losing access to your data and that another user could still retrieve your encrypted
files if your user or recovery agent private keys for EFS still remained on the
computer. --- Steve
