Dave

i have tried to follow some of the steps from other post,
as this one, >>.
Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions
of Norton Antivirus added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict
with Windows Messenger and cause it
to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus
(Right-click on the Norton Antivirus
icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock),
choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),
click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN
Instant Messenger and click OK.

But i don't have a bow in msn to uncheck when i open
norton under options, i am running XP pro with 2003
norton system works,, any other steps to folllow to SHUT
it off permently!!!
tks Dave

Besides the answer before your post you can use another method.
Rename the Messenger directory in C:\Program Files to MessengerOff

I also did that too,, and still comes on in taskbar!!
very annoying,, i know there is a way, i saw it in a
newspaper post on windows issues but i dint save it,, so
any other sugestions ???

This depends on whether you're using MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger.
They are two completely seperate programs. If you are using MSN Messenger
as you implied in the topic, just uninstall it in the add/remove programs
section in control panel.
