I use my PC for editing. I use AVID Express Pro for my editing application
and every time I turn on my deck to capture a tape Movie Maker starts up.
It's a pain to have to shut it down all the time. I'd like to send it away
permanently! Ideas?

Whatever files you are opening to edit are perhaps
associated with MM. Change their association in Windows
Explorer by right clicking on the file, then mouse over
'opens with' and click 'choose program'.

When the next box appears, choose Avid, and check the box
that says 'always use this program'.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then I am mistaken as to
what your 'deck' is.

Thanks for the response. The application loads when I turn on the deck ( Sony DSR45 DVCam). I haven't even got close to opening any type of file. XP recognizes that there is a capture device on the fierewire port and just assimes I want to run Movie Maker!

To be 100% honest with you, I have not had this experience
as I do not own a video camera ... but it still sounds like
a default program thing ... where you need to tell your
computer to open this program instead of that one.

For instance, when I put a CD or DVD in my drive, it'll ask
me what I want to do with it. I would imagine (though I can
be wrong) it's the same with your camera ... unless you
clicked the box that says 'always open with MM' at some
point in time. I don't know how to change this but the
information has to be available somewhere or from someone.
