Disable LAN connection not working?

I recently had a cable internet connection added to my
computer. It is an "always on" connection that was
installed by the cable rep.

I am now trying to add a new "always on" LAN connection
for a new DSL connection (via a USB modem).

I have tried to use the connection wizard to add this
connection but once I get by the box that states it is an
always on connection, the wizard says my broadband
internet is connect and should be working fine.

In order to create a new connection, I tried to delete my
cable LAN connection but it was greyed out and wouldn't
let me.

I tried to disable the cable LAN connection in hopes that,
that would allow me to be able to create a new connection
and it did not.

I found that disable did nothing.

Several question:
How do you delete a LAN connection?
How do you create 2 LAN connections at the same time?

extra credit:
The DSL modem is a USB modem, do I have to take different
steps to get this to function that I would not have to
take with a ethernet modem? It say new hardware found, but
offers me no help installing the hardware. The modem came
with a start up disk, and a note from the ISP stating to
not use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to delete a LAN connection is to go to Device Manager and
un-install the physical network adapter that the LAN connection uses.
Windows XP will create a new LAN connection the next time your reboot
unless you physically remove the network adapter from the computer or
disable it in the BIOS setup program.

However, you shouldn't need to do anything with the existing LAN
connection to get the USB connection for DSL to work.

Most DSL services these days use PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet), which
requires you to enter a user name and password. If yours does,
specify the Internet Connection option that says "Connect using a
broadband connection that requires a user name and password". If
you're not sure, check with your ISP.

If your DSL service doesn't require a user name and password, don't
run the new connection wizard at all.

In any case, enable the Internet connection that you want to use
(cable modem or DSL) and disable the other one.

Check with your ISP to see if you need to load a driver program for
the USB modem.
