Disable Internet Explorer

There isn't a way to completely remove it from your system, especially so
that the change would survive a hard-reset. You can remove the shortcuts
from the \Windows\Start Menu\ folder and disable any hardware key mappings
to open IE. You could also remove or rename the iexplorer.exe application,
although the more changes you make the more potential there is to break
other software, since some of the components are shared with the Help system
etc.

Thank you for your help, I try renaming it and get this error:

Cannot rename iexplore: The file may be in read-only memory, on a
write-protected disk, or currently in use by another application.

Do you know any ways around this?

I have the handheld locked down so the only application they can use is my
own however, I would like to be able to use Windows Media Player and it has
a link to internet explorer build into it.

It's in ROM/Flash. It's not a real file in the filesystem, so you can't
really rename it. You haven't told us what device or what version of the
operating system, etc., we're talking about. If it's WM5, you might try
creating a little EXE, naming it the same as the explorer program and
copying it over the top of the original in the \Windows folder. The only
way to get the real IE back after that should be a hard reset.
