Users on my network keep installing Yahoo IM on their workstations. I have asked around how to prevent this and the answer that I keep getting is "Use GPO!" That answer is kind of vague to me, how exactly do I use GPO to prevent users from installing programs, specifically Yahoo IM?
I have looked up GPO in all my Win2K books but none of them really explained how to go about doing what I need to do.
Any other advice on how to keep Yahoo IM from being installed, using GPO or some other method would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

I had the same problem. Key word was HAD. I employed a
GP that specifies a list of EXE's that they are able to
execute when logged in.

You can find that under the User Configuration,
Administrative Templates, System folder in GP.

There are drawbacks to using this method however. You
need to know what they need to use and list it
accordingly.

Good luck.
