Hi Don,
Check your root directory for a folder called Programs. Actually you should
have received a prompt to rename it if an older type of program tried to
install/place it there. More info here, however it pertains to 9x systems.

These checkpoints are to track down most 'any' type of folder opening during
boot in XP:
Go to Start/Run: Type in control folders. The go to View/Uncheck Restore
previous folder windows at logon.
Create Separate Processes for the Desktop and Explorer

Second Checkpoint:
Go to Start/Run and type in: msinfo32 From there navigate to Software
Environment, Startup Programs. The Command column will show you the exact
command line used.
You are looking for a listing that uses a long file name/path with spaces in
it, that is not enclosed in quotes. If found that is the culprit. Go to
Start/Run/msconfig/Startup.
If this is the case go to Start/Run/Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Look here for the program/folder in question. If listed, double click the
entry and put the full path name in quotes. And Verify that all the values
in these keys do not contain any incorrect, incomplete, or null entries
(such as "").

Third Checkpoint
Boot into Safe Mode (Start/Run/msconfig/Boot.ini/SafeBoot). If the folder
in question doesn't appear go to Start/Run/msconfig/Startup and remove all
of the checks.
Then go to the Services Tab and check off Hide All Microsoft Services, then
uncheck what is listed. Reboot. If the folder does not appear upon boot,
reinable each program at a time until the issue reappears. At this point
you should find the culprit.
Good luck!
