disable file sharing

I must be having a brain fart because I can't remember
how to disable file sharing. My firewall keeps giving me
the message that access has been denied from another
computer on my network. I am not trying to access files
from other computers on the network when this happens and
it is starting to annoy me. It is probably trying to
update a file on its own? The computer in question is a
dell p3 with windows xp pro and the computer on the
network it is trying to access is a dell p4 running win
xp home. Any suggestions would help. And both computers
have zone alarm for a firewall and the xp pro has its xp
firewall disabled. The xp pro has avast4 anti virus and
the xphome has mcaffee.
 
Typically you don't disable file sharing. You have a firewall and that's
your best bet. There's not much you can do to prevent other computers from
trying to connect to you, but it sounds like you are blocking them
successfully.
