I used to find such a setting on Win98, but can't find it on XP. Can someone
point me in the right direction?

control panel | network, look at properties for each individual
connection. to disable file and printer sharing for a particular
connection just unbind that service-layer from the protocol stack [uncheck
the box]. you can also delete those service-layers entirerly (file and
printer sharing and MS networking] if NONE of your connections require
them, that will also unload the Server and Workstation services, which
frees up lots of RAM and closes possible security holes.

to put things back again, simply run the Network Setup Wizzard.

Open network connection in control panel douple click the connection you
want to dissable file and print sharing on

Click the properties button, then in the "This connection uses the
following items: untick next to "File and print sharing for Microsoft
Networks

Thanks, Brian.

Thanks. Alerter, Server, and Workstation were all removed from the Services
console.

JD,

To disable printer sharing, open printers and faxes. right-click the
printer you want to disable, click on 'enable.' On the 'sharing' tab,
click on do not share this printer.

Hope this helps.
