How do I disable the 'Edit in frontpage' icon on the task
bar? So that intranet users cannot edit.
Thanks

You can't.
But even if they edit, they can't save it
to the server, or change what you have
published to the server unless they have the
user name and password and can log in
using FrontPage.

Hi Mike,
Yeah I'm using IE. (The Intranet isn't published to a
server, the files are just saved on the network).
You mention a registry setting on IE, that would mean the
personal settings on each machine would need to be
changed? If so then thats not the answer. I have been to
sites where the icon on IE task bar is greyed out, i
haven't changed anything on my IE settings.!
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Mark

Set the permissions on the folder to not allow writes or modification to
files via the OS.

Hi Marky,

I think you misunderstand what it means when a user uses the "Edit in
FrontPage" command in the tool bar of IE. What the user is editing is NOT
the page itself, but the downloaded copy of the page which is in the
Temporary Internet Files folder of their machine. When a browser opens a web
page, it downloads a copy of the HTML document and all related files (such
as images) to its Temporary Internet Files folder. From there, you can pull
up any HTML document that you have browsed and do whatever you like with it,
regardless of whether you have a Tool Bar command or not. However, remember
that this is not the original document that resides on the web server. It is
a copy. So, even if you could write some Machiavellian JavaScript to disable
the Tool Bar command (which you can't), you can't prevent people from
viewing or editing any of your web pages.
