Hi there,

is there a freeware tool for Windows which will disable/enable the com
port temporarily, ideally just by clicking on a systray icon?

I sometimes leave home and keep the computer running. I don't want any
dialers or the like to dial any premium rate numbers etc. when I can't
control it.

Cheers,
Ulrich

Dial Guard is a simple little security program that allows you to restrict
online access. It lets you limit daily online time to a paticular number of
minutes. It also lets you establish the time of day when Internet
connections are permissible. You can have Dial Guard load automatically
when Windows starts and apply optional password protection to prevent
tampering with your security settings. ~405Kb on my Security1 page
or HERE:
ftp://ftp.sharewarecenter.de/web_u_net/dgsetup.exe

Cheers!

Just use Hyperterminal, or TeraTerm Pro (freeware), or any other terminal
program. Open the port, and nothing else will be able to use it.
Depending on the terminal program, you should be able to use properties,
command line arguments, and/or scripting to be able to do it via a
shortcut.
