Hi,

I was wondering if it's possible to explicitly disable ACPI in the BIOS
on the A7A266? I can't find a specific setting for this in the BIOS.

Thanks,
Jim

If you are using any Windows NT you can disable ACPI use
at the beginning of the installation by pressing F5
when windows asks you to press F6 for additional drivers installation.
If you choose the Standard PC then a HAL without ACPI use is installed.

Friedrich,

Thanks for the response, but my question was specifically if it was
possible to disable ACPI in the *BIOS*. I'm trying to install Solaris
X86, and am having problems doing that, and from previous experience,
have been able to get around the installation problem (with other mobos)
by disabling ACPI in the BIOS, so I was trying to do the same with the
A7A266. I've searched all of the A7A266 BIOS, and can't see anywhere to
do that (BIOS version 1013 Beta 1).

I don't recall seeing an option to disable ACPI entirely in any Asus
board I've seen (or actually in any board that I can recall..)

I don't if this will help, but I know in Linux distros there is a text
install so that you can pass various kernel parameters to bypass problem
hardware or add drivers. If Solaris offers a text install or other
opportunity to pass kernel parameters you might be able to get around
installing the kernel modules for ACPI.

good luck,
john

Yes, I should have known that this is no windows problem... ;o)
From what I see the board uses an Asus medaillion bios
and I have never seen any mod in any forum for such a bios.

Hi All,

Well I've gotten by without disabling ACPI by switching temporarily to a
different hard drive. The original was a Samsung 200GB, and the new one
is a Hitachi 80GB, which installs without the "Gen-ATA" errors I was
getting earlier. I have some other problem even with the 80GB drive
though, related to UDMA, but I'm posting on the Solaris X86 NG for
those.

Thanks!

Jim
