Dis-appearing Events

We are operating within a mixed mode environment of
Windows 2000 server/Advanced as well as Windows 2003
Server/Enterprise. We are beginning to experience issues
where the events are empty. The properties are set to over-
write as needed for each event setting. I also know this
is not related to a previous issue with corrupt event
logs. Typically when this ocurred after clearning the log
files and rebooting would clear it up.

We wish to preserve the logs. Does anyone know what may be
causing this and how to fix it?

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Then; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
