HI,
bought the dis2006 suite, and have about 900 holiday fotos which i want to
put on a dvd that i can send to the grandparents so that they can watch it on
their tv as a slideshow.
Can i do that? can i hell as like! why is it MS have so much functionality
yet seem to ignore the basic requirements. Most of my family and friends all
just want to have some software where they can dump all their fotos and then
send them to all the relatives on a bog standard dvd disc.
VCD is very flaky and will not work on some of our players.
What plugin can i purchase that will allow me to burn more than 300 fotos to
a dvd disc as a slideshow, and i don`t want to pay almost as musch again for
smoebody elese product Mr gates?
thanks in advance
dan

The next Windows operating system, Vista, will add this DVD copying
capability.
Currently, Nero and Roxio are the most popular to copy to DVD, but you can
also find some for free via internet search.

thats a great help, given that vista is probably a year away now!!!
also which specific products are people using?
the stuff from the nero website seem to be standalone packages that have no
need of DIs2006, so whats the point of dis2006 without dvd burning
capabilities, especially as it seems you have to use somebody elses product???
i have looked thru the web, but there is nothing specific to photostory 3.1,
and even if i used something like a Sonic plugin, that product limits the
amount of fotos to 300 on a dvd disc, which is a colossal waste of a dvd
disc........
am i going to have to buy pinnacle v10 which seems by all accounts to be a
crash site??

This is a different requirement. You want to copy Photostory 3.1 on a DVD.
Not the same as simply copying photo files.

My experience with it: great if you use your PC to display, not so great to
display on a TV.

You may want to try Pro Show Gold, free trial from here:

Hi,
unfortunately you seem to have misread.
my argument is that most users of PStory3.1 would want to burn their holiday
fotos to a dvd that they can send to granny who can then play them on her dvd
player (not on a pc, i know how to whack hundreds of fotos onto a dvd for
storage) . PS3.1 does not do this, you have to get a different programme.
Your proshow gold recommendation, gratefully received, is $69 worth of
software that looks like it does all the things ps3.1 does, apart from the
dvd burning.
It seems odd that MS produce a hamstringed product which has to be
supplemented by a potential competitors product.
Esentially if i purchase psgold, i will have no use for photostory3.1, thus
rendering 1/3rd of DIS2006 redundant. Why would i want to burn slideshows to
vcd, given the age and flakiness of this format?
regards
Dan

If creating DVDs was your major reason for
purchasing DIS 2006...you may want to return
it. There is a 45 day return guarantee from
Microsoft that includes a postage allowance.
Have a look at the following site:

Product 45-Day Refund Policy

Unfortunately i bought this from amazon in the UK which does not have this
policy.
In another bizarre twist though, they do say you can return it if you are
unhappy with it in any way, but it must be unopened and all shrinkwrap
intact.....so in fact the only reason to return it would be the fact that i
don`t like the box colour then?
Absolutely nonsensical policy.
However i bought dis2006 for all the foto manipulation capabilities and had
mistakenly assumed that the blurb covered burning slideshows to dvd; the most
prevalent format.
I had also mistakenly assumed that some form of plugin/powertoy/developer
tweak would be available to install which would resolve this oversight.
It would seem that unless its an ie6 flaw fix, xbox360 game or vista
component our beloved Microsoft is a dab hand at neglecting basic usage.
Is there a director, customer service manager or somesuch that would be
contactable regarding this matter or am i on to loser?

Sorry, I have no info about the return
policy in the UK. Maybe MS UK Support
would be able to assist you.
